“Future? Know something? I never even think about it. Today’s what counts,” Keith Richards, 1966.
Moody. Magnificent. Masters of their craft. While the Beatles swept to worldwide acclaim in the sixties with their cheerful, chirpy pop, the Rolling Stones became global superstars as decadent outrageous rock stars with a far darker love: the Blues. Arguably the greatest rock band in the world, the Stones captured music fans’ imagination with their raw energy, soulful music and electric onstage presence. Girls loved them, boys wanted to be them.
Fronted by the thick-lipped, swiveled-hipped Mick Jagger who grooved to the sound of Keith Richard’s awesome guitar, the Stones were heralded as the voice of a generation in the revolutionary, youthful 60s, and are still touring and releasing music today. They’re big shoes for our Idols to fill, but luckily they have a back catalogue of hundreds of well-known Stones hits to help them make their claim for a position in the Final Five.
Wes Carr will be going nuts with one of their most popular, upbeat tracks "Jumpin’ Jack Flash", named after Keith’s gardener, Jack. Luke will be at home with the smoky ’69 hit “Honky Tonk Woman”, while Roshani will be performing one of rock’s great love songs, the emotional, heart-wrenching “Wild Horses”.
